Nexus One caught on film, bares all

Nexus One caught on film, bares allEvery smartphone worth its salt deserves an unboxing ceremony and hands-on video. It just doesn’t feel official until we actually see the handset emerging from the packaging whence it came. The latest smartphone to get that official “feel” is none other than the Nexus One (aka Google Phone). Thanks to Twitter user Phillm, we have some unboxing pics of Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s own-branded Android phone and a short little video to drool over.

The pics show the handset packaged in a familiar HTC box branded only with the Google logo and the “Nexus One” moniker. The backside of the phone is adorned with a little Android robot holding a QR code flag. The QR code leads to android.com/holidays, which automatically redirects you to Google’s Android website. If, however, you hit up the link with a Nexus One, you’ll be treated to a memory card game. The video also shows the Nexus One’s animated homescreen in action (notice the “light beams” racing across the background). All in all, the Google Phone is a sleek Android phone with the feature-set to backup its namesake.

So far, we know that the Nexus One is running Android 2.1 OS and packs a 1Ghz processor, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi and a massive capacitive touchscreen. We also know that it will be launched in early 2010 from Google and possibly T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) (although a CDMA variant is supposed to be in the works as well). All that’s left is for Google to officially launch the darn thing. CES Las Vegas 2010 sounds as good a time as any.
