Video: Hands-On with the Motorola Motoroi
Sunday, February 21, 2010 5:20 No CommentsSeeing as how none of us will be visiting Korea any time soon to try out Motorola (NYSE: MOT)’s first Android device in that market, we thought we’d check it out at Mobile World Congress. The Motoroi (XT720) was announced last month, with an impressive spec line: 3.6” WVGA display, 8 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, HDMI-out, TMB mobile TV, pinch-zooming, and Android 2.0. There was talk that the Motoroi would be coming to North America, but the folks I talked to around the booth predictably denied the possibility.
Great video of the Super-AMOLED Samsung Wave phone outdoors
Thursday, February 18, 2010 7:20 No CommentsMy buddy Ron over at oled-info.com has let me know about a video he found (which is sourced at portablegear.nl) that shows the Samsung Wave (which is packing a Super-AMOLED screen) being used out in the sunlight. As many of us know, AMOLED/OLED screens have been quite variable in terms of their performance in sunlight, so it’s reassuring to see the Wave screen is good
Anyway, check out the video here:
Video: Symbian 3 (Symbian^3) to be done Q1, on devices as early as Q3
Monday, February 15, 2010 9:20 No CommentsIn a little under one hour Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is going to be holding a press conference. We’ll try to live blog it, tethering with so many mobile phone geeks in one room is never nice, but in case our network goes down you’ll be able to watch Nokia’s event live on Nokia’s Mobile World Congress page.
We don’t know what they’re going to announce, but if the picture I took after I picked up my press badge is right, then we’re going to see something related to Intel.
Multi-touch and the Motorola Droid get friendly
Monday, February 8, 2010 2:20 No Comments
The Nexus One has been multi-touching itself with all kinds of pinch zoom functionality for days now, while Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid users have been left wanting a quick and convenient way to zoom in and out of web pages and Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps. Today, thanks to an otherwise unassuming update to the Android Google Maps app, Droids across the nation can now pinch-zoom their hearts out.
Motorola launches its next Android-based device on Verizon
Wednesday, February 3, 2010 17:20 No Comments

Since well before Motorola released even its first Android device, a render of a seafoam green and silver slider phone called “Calgary” was floating around the Android blogs. It wasn’t until today that Motorola officially announced this phone. Now known as Devour, the new Android device will be available on Verizon Wireless in March.

Absolutely Fantastic and Tremendous: The iPad Keynote Teardown
Tuesday, February 2, 2010 6:20 No CommentsThe good folks over at NeilCurtis.com did us all a favor and broke down the iPad keynote for those of us that simply don’t have the time to sit and watch the whole thing. Only the most important bits are here, as you’ll see in the video above. Of course this is all tongue-in-cheek… You’ve got to watch this video, trust me you’ll have a good laugh. In fact, I challenge you to catch the first minute or so and not at the very least crack a smile. I dare you. C’mon, do it. Hit play. Beautiful, Magical, Amazing… Phenomenal. Isn’t that great?
Handmark’s TweetCaster launched for Android
Saturday, January 30, 2010 8:20 No Comments
After the BlackBerry version, Handmark has launched TweetCaster for the Android platform. The popular Twitter client exists in two versions: regular which “costs” a tweet, and the Pro which sells for .99.
Feature wise, TweetCaster supports multiple Twitter accounts, retweets, Twitter lists, push notifications, URL shortening with previews, photo attachments, threaded direct messaging, font and theme customization.
As expected, latest Android smartphones equipped with WVGA screens such as the MOTO DROID and Nexus One perfectly sing along the app!
The Google Nexus One is better in sunlight than the Motorola Droid?
Sunday, January 24, 2010 12:20 No CommentsAnd by that title I don’t mean which tans better of course – rather, which device has a better screen when you’re in the sunlight! Is the Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Nexus One AMOLED, or the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid (Milestone) TFT LCD? I think you may be able to guess the answer, but let’s read on ….
Motorola Devour/Calgary Spotted in Verizon Inventory
Thursday, January 21, 2010 14:20 No Comments
The next Android device from Motorola (NYSE: MOT) has been seen live on more than one occasion, and is now popping up in Verizon (NYSE: VZ)’s CelleBrite system. This signals an impending retail presence, or at least an announcement – Mobile World Congress maybe? The Calgary (a.k.a. droid Devour) has all the same blur social networking enhancements as the original droid, although it’s a slight downgrade with a 3 megapixel camera and a 320 x 480 display. As a result the Devour will likely have correspondingly lower price point, though we haven’t heard any specifics on price or release date.
