Samsung have a smartphone with a 3D display?
Thursday, March 18, 2010 0:21 No CommentsWell yes, if the rumours are to be believed! TechDigest picked up on a story that came from Samsung Hub, regarding the SCH-W960 – apparently this device can do 3D via its screen, and not only that, can up-convert from 2D to 3D (now I think I’ve heard it all!). The device is apparently packing a 3.3 inch WVGA AMOLED screen, which is 3D capable – along with a comparably less impressive 3MP in the camera department. One other trump card it does have to play though is dual TV tuners – quite what standard really isn’t very clear though.
Sprint assures that it’s getting the Nexus One, too
Thursday, March 18, 2010 0:20 No Comments
Yesterday, an updated version of Google’s Nexus One Android smartphone was released, compatible with AT&T and Rogers Canada’s 3G networks. Today, Sprint is letting everyone know that it is getting the device too.
This means that all four major wireless carriers have secured a spot for the Nexus One this year. Google sells versions of the device optimized for T-Mobile and AT&T’s wireless networks, and a version for Verizon’s network is still expected some time in the Spring, but the operator has not put out any further notices about its availability.
SPB Software brings SPB Quads to Symbian touchscreen phones
Saturday, March 13, 2010 15:21 No Comments
SPB Software is bringing its popular puzzle title SPB Quads to Symbian S60 touch-enabled smartphones. The game, which is already available for the iPhone and Windows Mobile platforms, sees you putting together “all your pattern-finding skills to succeed.” The goal is to reveal and mark rectangles’ corners of the same colors in a field filled with color bricks, in a move that “destroys” them and earns you some points.
Mobile patent lawsuits explode
Thursday, March 4, 2010 21:21 No CommentsApple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s not the only one getting sue-happy over patents, as this brilliant infographic from The New York Times shows that pretty much every major player is involved in a patent lawsuit.
Google (NSDQ: GOOG) says the smartphone will overtake the desktop within the next three years, so many companies are trying to carve out their space. Patents are an important part of this and it makes sense for companies to protect their legitimate cases, but I think the patent system is a bit flawed – Apple has a freaking patent on unlocking a touchscreen by gesturing on an image.
Rogers to Launch Acer Liquid E
Monday, February 22, 2010 16:20 No Comments
Rogers (NYSE: RCI) has just announced an exclusive on the Acer Liquid E, an updated version of the Android-powered Liquid that was announced last fall. We got some playtime with the Liquid E at Mobile World Congress, and thought it would make a fine answer to the top-tier Android smartphones that we’re seeing from the more established manufacturers, if possibly aiming to undercut them on price.
Barbie Gets Geeked
Monday, February 15, 2010 15:20 No CommentsA few weeks back, I reported that Mattel was holding open votes to decide Barbie’s 126th career. Among the choices were News Anchor, Architect, and Computer Engineer. I’m happy to announce that the people have spoken and we now have Computer Engineer Barbie.

Beware the iPhone provisioning file hack!
Friday, February 5, 2010 4:20 No Comments
If you’re going about your day thinking your iPhone is as secure as any other smartphone out there, you obviously don’t know about a newly unearthed security flaw that could give hackers control over your Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone. Turns out, a method for installing new configuration settings on your iPhone could potentially allow hackers to mess around with your WiFi settings and lock you out of email, Safari or other iPhone apps. Hackers have figured out a way to create iPhone configuration provisioning files to look like they’re coming from a legit Apple source, allowing them to trick people into installing some “update” and hand over control of their iPhone to hackers.
Walmart Wireless to sell the Nexus One?
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 10:20 No Comments
At the moment you can grab the Nexus One only from Google (NSDQ: GOOG). But as they try to reach larger audience, I’ve no doubts deals would be struck with a number of retailers and operators. Why not with Walmart? If there’s one company that has reach comparable to Google’s, it’s Walmart. And apparently the retail giant’s wireless arm may be adding the Android 2.1-powered smartphone to its offering sooner rather than later.

The Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N900 and its 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, 32GB of storage, GPS and WiFi make it one monster of a smartphone. But, if you’re going to buy the Maemo-powered Nokia handset unlocked and contract-free, it’s also got one monster of a price-tag. Today, though, you can get your hands on the Nokia N900 unlocked for just 0 from Dell Small Business.
