Samsung have a smartphone with a 3D display?
Thursday, March 18, 2010 0:21 No CommentsWell yes, if the rumours are to be believed! TechDigest picked up on a story that came from Samsung Hub, regarding the SCH-W960 – apparently this device can do 3D via its screen, and not only that, can up-convert from 2D to 3D (now I think I’ve heard it all!). The device is apparently packing a 3.3 inch WVGA AMOLED screen, which is 3D capable – along with a comparably less impressive 3MP in the camera department. One other trump card it does have to play though is dual TV tuners – quite what standard really isn’t very clear though.
2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa coming to iPhone on April 27th!
Saturday, March 13, 2010 15:22 No Comments
Right from the floor of GDC, EA Mobile announced that 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will be released for the iPhone and iPod Touch on April 27!
Those attending the event (unfortunately I wasn’t there) had a chance to play the game, though I’m guessing it was not the build EA was demoing. PocketGamer was there but due to some NDA (I guess), they cannot share what they know at this stage.
Latest Android NDK could make gaming better
Tuesday, March 9, 2010 6:20 No Comments
Get ready for some gaming Android fans, as Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has just released the latest version of the native development kit and it gives developers the tools to make games that look as good as those on the iPhone.
The third NDK, known as Revision 3 or r3, gives developers access to OpenGL ES 2.0, which “brings the ability to control graphics rendering vertex and fragment shader programs, using the GLSL shading language.” Basically, this means good-looking 3D graphics. It’s the same tool that iPhone developers get with the iPhone 3GS, and this leads to some noticeably improved performance and visuals. It will only be available for Android 2.0 or higher devices.

Can’t wait to get Flash 10.1 on your smartphone? Well, the case may not be in your favor if you’re carrying around a first generation Android phone. Even if your device is still up to snuff today, it’s said that the new version of flash will only support specific processors.
Video: Hands-On with Acer Liquid E, neoTouch P300, P400, beTouch E110, E400
Sunday, February 21, 2010 5:20 No CommentsAs if we didn’t have enough handsets at which to gawk throughout Mobile World Congress, Acer has dumped a pile of Android and Windows phones onto the table. The Liquid E is a moderate refresh on the already-popular Liquid, including Android 2.1, and keeps the delicious Snapdragon processor. The E110 was a tiny, lower-end Android handset – the size (103.5 mm x 54 mm x 13.4 mm) was almost as impressive as Sony Ericsson’s X10 Mini, and will probably be a helluva lot cheaper. It’s running Android 1.6 with a few customized user interface elements, and packs 3G, a 2.8” QVGA display, 3 megapixel camera, and 1500 mAh battery.
Hands-On with Sony Ericsson Vivaz, Vivaz Pro, X10 Mini, and X10 Mini Pro
Monday, February 15, 2010 9:20 No CommentsIf you haven’t had a chance to check out Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s announcement tonight from Mobile World Congress, they’ve got three new handsets that we had a chance to play with. There weren’t many Mini’s floating around at the event (though we got some stills), but we got some solid playtime with the original Vivaz that was announced last month, as well as the brand-spanking-new Vivaz Pro, and the adorably tiny X10 Mini Pro.
Samsung: Our mobile division will grow 19% this year
Saturday, February 6, 2010 15:20 No Comments
Samsung expects that its handset shipments grow 19% to more than 270 million units this year, helped by demand for smartphones. In other words, that’s more than double that of the industry, according to the company’s president of the mobile-communication division – J.K. Shin.
Last year, Samsung shipped 227 million mobile phones and this year their big bet is on smartphones – the plan is to go from 2009’s 6 million devices to 18 million. In addition, the Korean company also plans to cover other market segments.

Bigger isn’t always better, but when it comes to some things – like a touchscreen display – size really does matter. Seriously, who doesn’t think their smartphone’s touchscreen could use a little more size? Well, if you had Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X10, you probably wouldn’t be left wondering what it feels like to have an Android phone with enough screen real estate to meet your needs. The company’s first Android smartphone boasts the largest capacitive touchscreen of any Android phone, and it puts it to good use. We had a chance to get some time to play with Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) XPERIA X10, and we came away impressed.

LBO’s pico projector modules are Holographic Laser-based, and apparently allow the user to touch the projected image to provide user input!
