Video: Google’s Near Me Now working in the Android and iPhone web browsers
Friday, January 8, 2010 11:20Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has now enabled “Near Me Now” on the iPhone and Android web browsers, whereas before it only worked in the Google Maps application. The usage model is simple enough, just type in google.com, click on “Near Me Now” and then look at what’s around you. This is yet another step Google is taking to make the web browser the definitive application platform and I couldn’t be happier. No waiting for Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) to release another point release of the iPhone operating system with an updated version of Google Maps, no having to check for a new version of Google Maps on Symbian, RIM and Windows Mobile devices, just go to a website you visit every day and take notice of the new features.
